cat update
Feb. 5th, 2010 05:47 pmFruitcake: the good news
She's less spectacularly unfriendly than she was. Clearly finds me a poor substitute for Zil, but I'll do when she's desperate for company. Can't complain because this is very much how I feel about Fruitcake.
Also, she tests negative for nasty cat diseases, so it'll be safe to bring a kitten into the house. (It's a long story, but there's a big gap in her vaccination record.)
The not so good news
Her thyroid levels are sky high, much more so than symptoms suggest. She's already had one thyroid removed, so the remaining one has to stay. It's pink pills twice a day from now on. I have to pill her by stealth, because doing it by force will quickly lead to her refusing to be in the same room--or even same house--as me forever. Unfortunately, she's very smart when it comes to spotting and rejecting concealed pills. All my first efforts produced was to make her refuse even the unspiked cat treats because, clearly, I was Up To No Good. A second attempt with little dabs of Laughing Cow cheese seems to have done the trick for now. First dab without pill to allay suspicions, second dab with pill lurking inside, and third dab before she can change her mind about the second one. I guess this is going to be a familiar routine.
Thank heavens I was able to visit
la_marquise_de and her lovely cats today. Was permitted to view Horus, pet Ish, and brush the delightful Mooncat all over (except tail). Felt much better.
