This is my quiet catchy-uppy month before the June marking rush. Have just got back from 4 lovely days in Paris doing culture with monkey boys. (Thank you [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de_  and [livejournal.com profile] bugshaw  for cat feeding.) All I really need to do is make sure spider finishes his homework, buy a second cat carrier, and take both cats to the vet for vaccinations. Simple. Or not...

Spidermonkey tends to stop doing homework as soon as I leave the house, so I postponed the trip to buy a cat carrier until today because vaccinations could wait until tomorrow, and I was busy doing admin stuff and forgot to bring the cats in before dusk. Then Leicester wouldn't come in because he'd caught a mouse, and Spider noticed he (Leicester) had blood on his face and a funny eye. We hoped it was mouse blood, but when I finally caught him and dragged him in (still trying to catch MOAR MICES) his whole eye was full of blood and looked terrible. Cue dash to the emergency vet, where it turned out not to be as bad as it looked and Leicester was a lot happier once shot up with cat morphine (having finally noticed the pain somewhere between mouse and vet). The actual eye is OK, but he's got a nasty rip in his lower lid that needs stitching under general anaestetic, but not last night because he'd just eaten (see 'mouse' above).

So we finally got him home after 10pm--way too late for a school night. Then this morning, we took them both to the Clarendon St vet, where Humbug had his vaccination as planned but Leicester stayed in for his stitches. If all goes well, I'll be picking him up this afternoon. He spent all night in the cat carrier, apparently in hopes of MOAR CAT DRUGS. He's high as a kite on what he had last night, but clearly eager for more and very pleased with his war wound. Next week, Hummie goes back for the rest of his jabs (separate shots because he had a reaction to the first one) and Leicester goes back to have all of his.

Since we still have only one cat carrier (which was big enough for two baby kitties last year, but barely holds one now), Musiquemonkey drove to the vet with me holding Humbug on harness and lead. He behaved beautifully except for dumping about half a gallon of cat wee on the vet's floor while I was holding him. Luckily I was standing up, so my jeans are lightly fragranced rather than soaked.

Now I'm off to change my jeans and buy a second cat carrier. Meanwhile, spare a thought for the dog they were prepping for at the emergency vet. He'd eaten a potentially fatal dose of chocolate in the form of a whole Easter Egg and it was too late for simply making him sick. They hoped he'd be OK in the end, but it was clearly going to be a messy and very expensive night for that family.
