the cat returns

Went for a walk along the fields / North West Cambridge Development Phase 2 site and found this.  He seemed to be making his way back to the monkey house, and it wasn't even raining!

He followed me home.

Can I keep him?

As usual after one of his camping trips, he's being extra cuddly and loving.  Until next time...

Well. Somebody's got the best of both worlds! :)

Exactly! Freedom AND a nice comfy bed...

Yep. Though also strangely smart - see below.

You have no idea how often those very words are said here!

He's not silly. He's got a great life while everyone else is in a panic looking for him... Great furry ratbag!!! He's cute though (and it's probably just as well)!

Cuteness is a survival characteristic. It may be Humbug's ONLY survival characteristic. Heaven only knows how he lures bunnies into pouncing range, but it can't be stealth or coordination.

You've got a real roamer. once they get a taste for that it's like chicken killing - almost impossible to stop. He is cute, thugh.

Neri is an indoor lady. The few times times I've let her out, she was so appaled at the vastness and noisiness of 'out' that she scurried back in immediately.

You are lucky! I wanted girl cats, partly because they roam less, but we ended up with 2 brothers. (Humbug chose younger son and that was that.) My previous cat, Zil, was a lovely old lady who would sit on my lap all day long.

In our old, city-centre house we thought Hum would have been quite content as an indoor cat. (His brother would have gone crazy and shredded all our stuff.) He used to bring us sticks and sweet wrappers and pile them up by the back door while Leicester stayed out late killing mice. But then we moved and he discovered countryside. And bunnies...

The weird thing is how placid and cuddly he is when he is at home. I don't think it's exactly an urge to roam that keeps him out. More that he's too laid back to bother coming home unless he's seriously wet or hungry. Then he might not bother leaving home for a couple of weeks. He spends a lot of time asleep with his paws in the air.
