I'm on my own today with another medical translation, but taking time off for this and perhaps more.  Anyone want to join me?  It would be nice to have company.
Miranda is fun, and so are the texts she's talking about.  She's also battling at the moment to convince admissions that people do not always flee when they hear the word 'medieval', so support for the talk would help a good cause.

Where wolf? Sidgwick Site
When snake women? 1pm

Where other monkeys?  Birmingham uni open day and Comic Con.

I'd love to accompany you - and be it to state a point - but unfortunately I'm nowhere near you. Have a good and fun evening :)

Tell Miranda to read Marie de France's Lais if she likes Medieval literature.

I think she's read them already. Half her talk was about Bisclavret :-)
(The other half was Melusine.)

Good girl! I fell in love with Marie and her ascerbic eye at Camb decades back, and chose her for my dissertation despite having no French(!) Spent many a happy afternoon locked in room with English translations of Lais + Norman-French dictionary teasing out what the 'key' vocabulary might be via combination of guesswork, ear and luck. It's a real shame she doesn't get more exposure. Not quite Jane Austen, but she's good!

Quite. Miranda teaches medieval French at the uni and did her PhD with Sarah Kay, like me. She can definitely be relied on to promote Marie de France. :-)

Ah - I think we're at cross purposes with our Mirandas - the one I'm thinking off is just starting uni, and a long way from PHD. Would be interesting to meet yours some time. I was introduced to Marie via an English Lit medievalist. Good to know the Norman-French writiers have a presence in both disciplines!
