I nearly got carried away yesterday and started the process to rehome a cute poodle called Paris from Wood Green.  Luckily(?) we're not eligible because we live within 3 miles of where she was found as a stray, and one of our best doggie walks would take us over that way.

Was I crazy to think of doing this?  I would love to have a dog, particularly a poodle (because fluffy, clever, trainable, and small enough to ride in a bike basket) but I have two cats and a busy life.  And a garden it would cost a fortune to fence securely.  And a cat flap a small poodle could get out through...

What is the logic of that reason?

If you walk the dog near where she was found, she may recognise old haunts and try to run home / panic / whatever. Or be recognised by previous owner.. I got the impression Wood Green were more worried about the last one as they kept saying 'although we do everything we possibly can to trace owners before we rehome a dog'.

Not crazy at all. And poodles are lovely dogs.

They are. Well, some of them, anyway.

I don't know. We had a poodle when I was born until I was 18 and that was the meanest dog. He would snap and growl and was not at all fond of children.

That doesn't sound good at all.

All I can say is do you seriously want both of the cats to hate you forever? At best that's what you'd get and at worst you'd find that both of them either made the dog's life an absolute misery or they voted with their feet and left home :) Seriously, don't do it. Don't even think about doing it is my advice.

I don't know. We added a dog to two cats when I was a kid, and that worked fine for all concerned. But the dog was a puppy. I'd be more worried about adding an adult dog...
