Once again, modern languages is banished from the realms of geekery, presumably because we became a branch of Travel and Tourism at some point between 1883 and 1993. (I was busy reading Goethe and writing a PhD on the fabliaux. When I came out to look around, it was already over.)

Languages are *hard*. Including them might scare people.... At least, that seems more and more to be the thinking. Sigh.

But I *so* wanted points for being able to locate a complete French Proust in 15 seconds. Or knowing what you get if you type ALT0231...

Exactly. I don't have the Proust, but I have the Tao Te Ching in Chinese, a Vulgate Bible within 3 foot of where I'm sitting now, and a bunch of Arthurian mediaeval poems in their original languages. Amongst other stuff.
We're both just too cool for that meme.
