New School Year
Sep. 21st, 2007 12:49 pmTwo weeks into the new term...
Spider Monkey (The Big One) seems to be loving secondary school. It's the cafeteria that does it.
Getting the right stuff packed for the right lessons is tough, as is keeping up with homework, not losing stuff, organisation generally. But he loves that the work is more interesting and the teachers know more. He's with lots of friends from primary and has made one new friend.
I can't believe how sensible he's being. We're not even having the problems I expected over wanting to hang out with friends after school. No. They all head home to start on homework. Feel the engines cannae hold much longer, but for now, it's great!
He can't have his violin lessons at school anymore, but they're still through the county music service (better, cheaper, comes with free orchestra and choir). He's getting on like a house on fire with the new teacher. He deserves it after all the hard work he put in for the miserable, grumpy one! Grade 2 in November.
Squirrel Monkey (The Not Quite So Big One) likes having primary school all to himself. He's very grown up about walking there on his own though he does like me to go with him when I can. This is perfect for me. I don't feel banished, but I have so much more freedom than when I was tied to the school run. Also means the two monkeys can do different after school activities.
