the ?feline mind
Oct. 22nd, 2012 02:20 pmSince we got the Sureflap cat flap, neither monkeycat can get out through it when it's set to in only. (With the old, low-tech flap Leicester could but Humbug couldn't, which is what you'd expect.)
With the new flap, Leicester tries all the tricks that worked before--hooking a claw behind it, batting it to make it bounce back-- and he studies it for hours trying to figure it out. Humbug, on the other hand...
Humbug uses the element of surprise. He jumps out from behind the sofa and pounces on the cat flap. When that fails to catch it unawares, he saunters away pointedly, right out of the room. Then he slinks back craftily using the furniture for cover until he's as close as he can get to the cat flap without coming out into the open. He bunches, he waggles his bottom to calibrate his trajectory... he springs!
Last night, the cat flap was just too alert, but I expect he'll keep trying to catch it napping.
