Ever since I signed up for Dreamwidth, I seem to have a lot more opportunties to invest in Nigerian Rolexes filled with dodgy viagra. Anyone else notice the same thing?

I already had my profile set up not to display my email to anyone, so the only way I can think of to increase security is to switch my DW emails to an account that I never read unless I'm looking for something specific. This isn't a problem now, but it'll be a pain if I ever start using DW properly. (I don't plan to move unless everyone else does: I'm just grabbing my usernames.)

The reason I suspect DW is partly the timing of the increase in spam, and partly that it's coming only to the 2 email addies that I use for my two DW accounts, not to the others that I use for work and my kids. The only time this happened with LJ was when I stupidly typed my address into a comment that was only visible for a minute or two.

We've had more recently, too, and the marquis isn't signed up for DW. There might be a new robot out there.

Interesting. I'll give DW the benefit of the doubt, then. At least, unless spam starts pouring into the address I've just given them.

I noticed a big increase about three weeks *before* I signed up for DW, in fact. The flood did not increase, thank bob, when I added DW, so I guess my answer to your question is no. *g*

It's beginning to look as if it's just spammy internet weather out there. I've switched addies anyway and will watch to see what happens next.

I haven't had any recent spam, and I signed up for DW about a month ago. Intarwebz move in mysterious ways - it's maddening to try to figure these things out sometimes.

And this is just one reason why I'm not signing up to Dreamwidth...
