cake and party report

woolymonkeyI promised to report on spidermonkey's birthday party and cake:

desperance 's chocolate beetroot cake, with a bolt-on neck of family chocolate cake from the Nip-In. Sadly, I messed up the beetroot cake because some still unidentified monkey or cat joggled the thermostat on the oven so it cooked at 90C rather than 180C. I'm sure it would have been deliciously moist. By the time it had been cut up, rebuilt, and smothered in choc-lemon buttercream and sweeties, it didn't really matter.
Cake design and decoration were by squirrelmonkey, who put so much effort into recreating detailed guitar features I was half expecting him to tune the thing. The actual cutting and spreading were by musique_monkey.
When all the big monkeys came back from skating, they lit the candles, toasted marshmallows over them, growled 'Happy Birthday', stuck a knife in it, and we covered it all with buckets ofblood raspberry coulis out of a bottle. Not sure if you can see that here.

When they'd all eaten their recommended annual sugar allowance,bugshaw appeared with an offering of beautifully handcrafted chilli-chocolate-beef-jerky mice. I'm not even going to try one until I've recovered from cake overload, but several monkeys were brave enough to give them a try. Wish I'd had the camera handy.
