end of an era
Fruitcake was a lot weaker this morning. The boys said their goodbyes before they went to school because we could all see she might not make it till they came home.
She wobbled out to the patio and back for a sit on the doormat watching the feathersnax on their morning visit to thebait feeder.
Then she curled up in the spare room and really didn't want to respond to anything--food, company, pills--not even to shun it. So I brought out the blue box. She didn't even resist being put in.
She liked watching the vet's cat in the waiting room, but she was still in a terrible state. The vet was very clear that there was only one kind option, and he made it quick and easy for her.
While I was out,
musique_monkey dug a hole in the back garden. She's buried where she liked to sit. It's exactly one month and one day since Zil died.
Can't think work today. I'm going to clean out her sick room, sort out the cat stuff, and then have a long hot bath...
Thanks for all the comments on the happy kittens post. Please keep them coming. Happy kitten thoughts are really helpful just now and will be something cheerful to show the boys when they get back from school.
I'll do a Fruitcake memorial post with photos later on, and wrap up her and Zil's blog. The kittens will be starting their own lj as soon as they get the hang of typing.

Kittens are a v.good thing, looking forward to reading their LJ (don't let them play too much with the mouse!) (when you're ready for it, there's a cartoon of a man trying to use the computer mouse the cat has just eaten, here)

Cats
so sorry to hear about Fruitcake - very moving that she and Zil died so close together in time. We're missing them even from this distance - what a sweet, eccentric pair they were. But lovely news about the kittens - longing to see them when we come after Easter
with all our love grandpa and grannymonkey
