Happy New Ear

Spidermonkey and I just came back from another trip to the hospital ear clinic.  It's mostly good news.

The ear infection has completely gone and there's no sign of the original problems recurring, so he doesn't need more surgery.

And he can go swimming again!  (Though he has to get a specially made ear mould first, which will take a few weeks and a couple more clinic visits.)  And he can wash his hair under the shower like a normal person!

On the downside, he still has two holes in his eardrum and reduced hearing in that ear, but this is all so much better than what he's used to coping with that it really doesn't feel like a problem.

Neither of us could quite believe they were actually letting him go: he doesn't have to have his ear checked again for a whole year.

The subject line was copyrighted by Squirrelmonkey in December 2000, just after Spider had got his first set of grommets* and suddenly wasn't deaf any more.
At his Nursery Christmas show, Squirrel, then aged two and a half, could clearly be heard belting out, "We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Ear!"

* Teeny little tubes though the eardrum to drain trapped fluid, in case you call them something else, or just haven't been blessed with glue ear.

Sounds like good news to me!

Yes, it is!
Hope your mum got good news too. Was thinking how she was also sitting in a hospital waiting for the Word of The Consultant. Helped remind me that our ear worries are relatively minor.

It is, especially when you think how different things looked a few weeks ago.

Happy New Ear made me snicker. :)

Baby Squirrelmonkey was so sweet with "Happy New Ear". It obviously made complete sense to him that people would sing that at Christmas.

ears and grommets

In French grommets are diabolos a term much used as children there have plenty of glue ear, more pompously called otite chronique aseptique!
I hope this gets through??

Yes, that got through perfectly! Well done!
I'll tell Spidermonkey about diabolos.
