woolymonkeyThank you all for the healing thoughts. He's much comfier this morning, purring and rolling over, though still unable to bear weight on his back legs. He was very happy to receive scritches and his favourite tiger-stripe blankie when I took it to him.
Still awaiting x-rays. Hopefully it's a simple fractured pelvis, for which the cure is 6 weeks of crate rest. Though there's still the possiblilty that the fracture is too complicated, or there is more internal damage, or nerve damage. It's literally a matter of life and death that he's able to pee, so even if the x-rays are good, he won't be allowed home until/unless he's emptied his bladder. This is a cat who will routinely hang on for 36 hours to avoid using an indoor tray, so we could be waiting a while.
So... While I'm way too much of a pessimist to assume he's coming home, we need to plan enough to be ready to bring him home tomorrow or later, which means having a crate or cage to confine him in. Does any of you lovely people in the Cambridge area have something we could borrow if we need to? It needs to be big enough to hold a litter tray, bed and bowls, but not much bigger (a bigger one might be great later in the recovery process). Ideally a 6-week loan would be perfect, but even just a week would give us a chance to settle him in while we go shopping for a crate of our own. I just don't want to do that until I'm sure he's coming home, but there may not be much shopping time after that. Honestly, I haven't been so stupidly superstitious about preparing for anything since we were waiting for spider to be born and wondering how much equipment we dared/needed to get in advance.
ETA Request cancelled for now at least. He'll be at the vet until Monday at least, and I can't bear to make arrangements unless things start to look more positive. Also, Monday is easier for shopping than the weekend.
