remembering Zil

Zil 28/06/1994 - 24/01/2010

Zil was my first cat of my own and the cat who taught [livejournal.com profile] musique_monkey , spidermonkey and squirrelmonkey to love cats (and not to pull their fur). She was very good with small monkeys and insisted on attending all their birthday parties, no matter how raucous.

She definitely saw herself as part of the family. While she was aware of the multiple inadequacies of apes, she was very patient with us. Possibly because she suspected she might be an ape herself. She liked to sit where we sat, eat what we ate, and used her paws like hands. If there's reincarnation, I reckon she'll be human next time round. I seem to be heading the other way so perhaps we'll meet with roles reversed. I hope she lets me have a livejournal.

I thought I could stop her stealing my bedside water if I used a narrow glass...

This was Zil a few weeks before she died. I only took it because I'd just fitted my old sim into [livejournal.com profile] tamaranth 's old phone (kindly offered after I washed my one) and I needed a pic for wallpaper. Zil was on my lap--of course--so I took one of her.

Zil's lj is [livejournal.com profile] zil_n_fruitcake , which Fruitcake is doing her best to keep going, but the spelling just isn't what it was when Zil was in charge...

HA! I could've told you about the water (if I'd known you then). One of my cats annoys the hell out of the other by dirtying the water dish because instead of lapping from it, he likes to dip in his paw and lick the droplets off of it, LOL.

Ha! I gave up trying to stop her after that. When she came into the bedroom first thing I'd just put the glass on the floor. Easier than having her clamber over the piles of books on the bedside table.

When I was a kid, I had pet rats: who would climb up to the lip of a tall narrow glass if there had been milk in it, lower their entire bodies in (while clinging to the rim with their back paws and balancing all with their tail), reach down and scoop up pawfuls of residual milk from the bottom...

I think that should have read "pawsful"...

Nah. I like pawfuls. Rats are smart.

I think there's a nursing picture of me with exactly that same expression. What a lovely, lovely kitty! *hugs*

She was! And definitely a fertility goddess too. OK, so I was taking ovulation drugs, but they didn't work until Zil got pregnant!

I helped her look after her kittens and she helped me with mine. I'm sure that's how she saw it. Mine just took longer to grow up.

AWWWWWW! Such a pretty girl! I love her paw in the glass and the piccie of her as a proud mama! Thank you for sharing these. She was beautiful!

Thank you. There's something very cat like about the girl in your userpic.
