We just ate Humbug's pheasant, casseroled with bacon, sausages and wine. It was good. Cats liked it too.

Leicester has been catching mice just outside the windows to make sure we can see him.  Humbug has been lolloping along more like a woolly caterpillar than ever--he's trying to keep his new bell quiet.

Oh, my goodness. Is there a salmon stream in the neighborhood? He'll be writing for Epicurious next. Or bringing home actual bacon.

But, when we were in the old house with the original Humbug, I wouldn't have been too surprised if he'd dragged in a packet of bacon from the corner shop. The new Humbug might try for a pig if they have any on the farm...
